Great movies to watch this Valentines....

Every year there is one film that gets released on Valentines that draws in the crowds. Unless you've been stuck in a cave for the past three months you will know that THE film to see is 50 Shades of Grey but for those of you like me that either:

a) don't have tickets or
b) really don't care about it

Here are some alternative options to watch either at the cinema or the comfort of a sofa / bed ;)

At the Cinema

I do feel this list is a bit limited as the big film companies were prepared for the 50 Shades release but here's a few ones you may want to try:

Big Hero 6

For anyone who knows me this is a really obvious pick. I saw this recently with the bf and fell in love immediately with the story and characters - I guarantee you will too! Ok, so it's not the 'typical' Valentines film but if you are looking for something to see in the daytime with your girlfriends or long time love this would be perfect! It's pure Disney huggable fun!!

I haven't seen this yet but it looks like the perfect mix of romance and biographical fact. This is the film winning all those awards recently and is about the life of Stephen Hawking taken from the memoir of Jane Hawking, his ex-wife, throughout their early years together. It obviously will get heavy when it comes to discussing motor neuron disease and his career in physics but I think if you want an intellectual discussion after the cinema or just to see how these two amazing people fell in love, this is the film for you.

Inherent Vice

This is a bit of a random one but set in the 1970s starring Joaquin Phoenix, Maya Rudolph and Benecio Del Toro this film cannot be anything but great. From what I've read it's a detective drama with a bit of humour and drugs thrown in so I suspect it will be fun and a bit thillerish.

At home

Here are some for those who want to watch from the sofa or bed :)

Silver Linings Playbook - Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper in your not so average pairing story - this film has something for everyone!!

50 First Dates - This is here because I personally love it. No this isn't going to be for everyone as it is what I call an innocent rom-com, meaning it's one for all the family too but I still adore it. Tell me what isn't more romantic than a man making the woman he loves falls in love with him every day?!?

Drive  - Drive is amazing. The Drive soundtrack is amazing. Watch it... now!

The last two I think are great options are classics: Godfather and/or Die Hard. Both are brilliant films that everyone can enjoy plus if you just want a chilled night in you could crack through all of the film series!! To be honest these will more than likely be on TV somewhere or other so record it now and save it for weekend.

And of course if you are looking to win a girl like me over go for classic horror - think The Shining or Alien :)

Whatever you do this Valentines just go have fun, after all it's just another greeting card holiday ;)
